Kentucky Dressage Association Announces the KDA Kearney Cancer 5K & Fun Walk to Benefit the Markey Cancer Center

KDA Kearney Cancer 5K and Fun Walk, hosted by the Kentucky Dressage Association on Saturday, May 24th at the Kentucky Horse Park, announces $1,000 in prize money and invites the public to attend an evening of family fun and entertainment.

The 5K and Fun Walk onsite registration and check in will open at 4:30 pm and the start time is 5:30 pm. Individuals of all ages may enter the one mile fun walk. All proceeds will benefit cancer research at the Markey Cancer Center. New for this year adding to the evening festivities is a “Most Creative Dog Costume” contest to be held immediately prior to the race.

Along with the $1,000 in prize money for the top three male and female 5K runners, awards will be presented in seven different age divisions, and awards to winners ten and under in the one mile run/walk. All participants are welcome to stay and have free admission to watch the KDA dressage freestyles (horses dancing to music) in the Rolex Arena. Dressage musical freestyle is an exciting combination of the technical and artistic aspects of dressage. Runners and non-runners are invited to enjoy a catered buffet dinner for purchase with cash bar during the freestyles.

Sponsors this year include the Mount Brilliant Family Foundation, Kevin and Vicki Warren and Jim and Michelle Morehead.

“This is a fabulous opportunity to explore the Kentucky Horse Park, home of the 2010 World Equestrian Games,” said Michelle Morehead, KDA President. “Accessibility of the park to runners is normally limited but they have very generously agreed to be the venue for the event in aid of such a great cause.”

Runners and walkers interested in participating in the 5K may register at www.RunSignUp.com. Early registration fee is $25 and includes a T-shirt if received by May 16th. Late registrants are not guaranteed a t-shirt at the race. Additionally participants may register for the buffet dinner ($20) following the race. Dogs must be on a leash at all times.
