Southern Lights Named Top 10 Winter Event!

Frankfort, Kentucky, November 5, 2009 – The Kentucky Tourism Council has selected Southern Lights 2009 as one of Kentucky’s 2009 Winter/Holiday Top 10 Festivals & Events.

Southern Lights, presented by The Kentucky Horse Park Foundation, will return to the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington on November 20 through December 31, 2009.  From 5:30 pm until 10:00 pm each evening, visitors will be awed by the dazzling display of majestic lights.  The drive begins at the horse park campground and proceeds through an enhanced dreamland of dazzling lighted and often animated figures.  While many displays depict facets of the holiday season, other favorites are customized to represent the Bluegrass state.  While inside the park, visitors can leave their cars for a variety of holiday activities and entertainment including a petting zoo, pony and camel rides, model trains, holiday and craft vendors, refreshments and the Mini-Train Express.  Admission is $15.00 for a personal vehicle with other rates available for buses or extended vans.

A panel of impartial judges selects the Kentucky Tourism Council Top 10 Festivals & Events for each season.  Criteria for selection include popularity of the event, its impact on the local tourism economy as well as cultural and historical significance.
