Director of Marketing & Public Relations, Kentucky Horse Park
Road to the Horse International 2013 celebrates the 10th anniversary of the World Champion Colt Starting competition with the most extravagant competition yet in Lexington, Kentucky.
A competition untouched by others, tests skill, experience and colt training prowess, Road to the Horse dares four young, elite horse trainers, Guy McLean, Dan James, Sarah Winters and Obbie Schlom, to create a trusting partnership with an untouched 3-year-old Quarter Horse from the renowned 6666 Ranch in Texas. Competitors have just three hours spread out over three days to build a working relationship with their colt. Clinicians work through the process using their own natural horsemanship style giving spectators a chance to learn from the best in the world. With disruptive sounds, exhilarating sights and adrenaline-pumping time constraints each competitor must face the final trial, an obstacle course. Only one will walk away with the Colt Starting World Champion Title.
Unlike the team format of 2012, these horsemen and horsewomen will represent their countries as individuals. Road to the Horse 2012 champions, Australians, McLean and James have their sights on once again being on top of the world.
Americans, Winters, 22, and Schlom, 18, will be the youngest ever competitors, marking only the second time another female competed in the event’s 10 year history. In a battle of Australia versus America, will the title go back to Australia or will the challengers keep it at home?
True horse enthusiasts recognize Road to the Horse as the event of the year. An event so big can only happen in one place; the “Horse Capital of the World,” Lexington, Kentucky. Meet horsemen and women from around the world at the Kentucky Horse Park for a truly unique experience. Now, for the first time ever, Road to the Horse legends will meet in one arena.
“This is the greatest equine event, held in the greatest facility, in the horse capital of the world,” says award-winning producer, Tootie Bland.
The event will expand into the Alltech Arena, home to the 2010 World Equestrian Games, Kentucky Horse Park on March 15-17, 2013. The site boasts an on-site campground, nearby racehorse farms and historical sites.
Road to the Horse has become the hottest ticket in the equine world and historically sells out months in advance. Don’t miss your chance to witness the World Championship of Colt Starting, much like the Super Bowl, being there is an experience that is unforgettable! Tickets for this electrifying event are on sale now and going fast at roadtothehorse.com.

Lexington, Kentucky is known as the "Horse Capital of the World" for good reason. From Thoroughbred racehorses to internationally celebrated equestrian events, there are more ways to witness man's unique relationship with the horse in Lexington than anywhere else in the world. Now you can add one more world-class event to that list, as the Professional Roughstock Series brings almost $5 million worth of horses and bulls to town with the "Lexington Shootout" Friday, January 18th (7:30 pm) and Saturday, January 19th (7:30 pm) at the Kentucky Horse Park's Alltech Arena
Professional Roughstock events showcase the top riders and top livestock in bareback, saddle bronc and bull riding all packed into a high-energy, 2-hour program.
The lineup of nationally known riders coming to Lexington is equally as impressive as the equine and bovine group from a statistical standpoint. Combined, the two-night performance will feature defending PRS World Champions Steven Peebles (Bareback), Seth Glause (Bull Riding), Jesse Wright (Saddle Bronc) as well as nearly two-dozen National Finals Rodeo qualifiers and big names like Kaycee Feild (BB), JR Vezain (BB), Jory Markiss (BR), McKennon Wimberly (BR), Chad Ferley (SB) and Cort Scheer (SB).
The Lexington Shootout is the third stop on the nationally televised 2013 PRS Tour, having kicked off in Montana in December. The PRS features the three most exciting and dangerous events in rodeo -- Bareback Riding, Bull Riding and Saddle Bronc Riding. Each night, twelve riders from each discipline will have one riding opportunity in the first round. The top four scores in each discipline will advance to the "Wrangler Final Four Showdown." Out of the two nights of competition in Lexington the riders with the highest aggregate scores will be crowned Lexington Shootout Champions.

About the PRS:
Headquartered in Belle Fourche, SD, the Professional Roughstock Series was founded in 2001 with several independently produced events per season, mostly in the mountain west region. The series features the top names in Bareback riding, Saddle Bronc, and Bull Riding matched up with hand-picked world class animal athletes. The PRS televises each of their self-produced events through three different media partners ----- Altitude Entertainment, Blue Highways TV, and Midco Sports Network.
Of all the equestrian sports out there, none of them are as FUN as mounted games. The US Mounted Games Association will hold a series of competitions at the park over five weekends this winter and spring, sure to delight participants and spectators alike with teams competing in relays named Bang-A-Balloon, Hi Lo, Hula Hoop, Socks and Buckets, Windsor Castle and others. The series will culminate in the US Mounted Games Bluegrass Open on April 13 and 14, 2013 in the beautiful Rolex Stadium.
The competition is open to adult and youth divisions and is known as a niche equestrian sport that is relatively inexpensive and has a wide variety of classes suited to the skill level of the rider. Bring out the family to watch the fun, and get caught up in the action!
