The MayDaze Horse Trials Arrive, May 24-26!
At the MayDaze Horse Trials, approximately 500 horses are scheduled to compete in dressage, cross-country and stadium jumping, here at the Kentucky Horse Park on May 24-26, 2013.
On Friday, dressage, meaning training in French, where horses are described as appearing to dance, will begin in the morning at 8:00 am. Eventing in the Rolex Stadium will begin at 10:00 am, finishing at approximately 5:00 pm. Saturday’s competitions in all three, dressage, cross-country and stadium jumping, will begin at 7:30 am and run until 6:00 pm. Sunday will run from 7:40 am to 3:00 pm and will only include jumping phases.
Competitors from both the Olympics and the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event will participate in these events as well as those in the beginner levels. Competitors will be attending from 20 states. Individual ride times may be viewed on www.champagnerun.com starting on May 21.

KY Invitational High School Rodeo Finals, May 24-26!
The Kentucky Invitational High School Rodeo Finals, with action you don’t want to miss, is here at the Kentucky Horse Park,May 24-26!
Approximately 85 of the best high school athletes in the region will compete over the weekend. Each contestant will perform most all of the events. Events include Bareback Riding, Breakaway Roping, Barrel Racing, Calf Roping, Goat Tying, Pole Bending, Steer Wrestling, Team Roping, and Bull Riding.
Junior high school students will also compete during Friday and Saturday’s competition for their state finals. Events exclusive to Junior High will be Cute Dogging, Boys Goat Tying, Ribbon Roping, and Boys Breakaway.
Friday night kicks off the rodeo at 7:30 pm with a Cowboy Mounted Horse Shooting. Saturday’s performances are scheduled for 2:00 pm and 7:30 pm with a 4-H drill team doing their drill in observance for Memorial Day before the evening competition. Sunday’s performance will be at 2:00 pm and will feature several Bull Riders and many Barrel Racers.
Scholarships will be awarded to the All Around Cowboy and Cowgirl with the best average for the weekend. Rodeo proceeds will go to support the Kentucky High School Rodeo Association.

The Parelli Horse & Soul Tour, May 25-26!
The Parelli Horse & Soul Tour, guaranteed to entertain just as much as educate, is making a stop at the Kentucky Horse Park on May 25-26, 2013. The Parelli program focuses on building the natural relationship between human and horse using the principles of love, language and leadership as guides.
Founded in 1981 by lifelong horseman, horse trainer, rodeo rider, cowboy and teacher, Pat Parelli and his wife, Linda Parelli, began the Parelli Program to focus on teaching the human rather than training the horse. Participants are guided through a series of segments covering a wide range of topics, from Colt Starting to Horsenality, from Lead Changes to the Game of Contact. Each show features different students, different presenters, different music, and different lessons making each horsemanship tour unique, just like each horse.
Horse lovers at all levels and disciplines are welcome and may benefit from the Parelli Natural Horsemanship method. Themes include achieving success without force, partnership without dominance, teamwork without fear, willingness without intimidation, and harmony without coercion. Horse owners who follow the Parelli program have found that, not only does the program enable them to become a gifted horse trainer, but they also come away with the lasting gift of an enhanced relationship and communication with their horse as well as with everyone in their lives.
For this event, pets will not be allowed.Outside food and drink will also not be allowed into the arena. Food vendors will be open on-site.

KDA Spring Warm Up & Annual Dressage Show, May 23-26!
The 27th annual Kentucky Dressage Association’s (KDA) Spring Warm Up & Dressage Show, demonstrating the highest expression of horse training, returns May 23-26, 2013, to the Kentucky Horse Park!
Dressage, commonly referred to as horse ballet, is a graceful and disciplined sport where rider and horse perform a series of predetermined movements with minimal direction while maintaining a relaxed posture. At the KDA’s Annual Dressage Show, viewers can experience firsthand the fine art of dressage performed by such elegant creatures – horses.
The competition begins with the KDA Spring Warm Up on May 23-24 preceding the annual Dressage Show on May 25-26. The KDA spring shows will conduct all CDI3*/CDI*/CDIY/CDIJ/CDIP classes and many others in the Rolex Stadium, which was the site of dressage and show jumping for the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games. KDA is expecting more than 230 riders during the four-day show that attracts competitors domestically as well as internationally. Last year, during the 2012 competition, there were riders from Canada and Spain.
The Kentucky Horse Park, in conjunction with the KDA, will present a special World of Horses show on Saturday, May 25. Central Kentucky Riding for Hope, which teaches riding to the physically and mentally handicapped, will be introducing their horses to the public and promoting their mission. There will also be a KDA, hosted cancer walk in memory of Mary Kearney, a former KDA member, horse lover and dressage enthusiast. The community is invited to participate in the walk at 6:00 pm, and then to stay to watch an exciting dressage freestyle competition in the evening. Shuttles will take participants to the run/walk course at Mt. Brilliant Farm behind the Kentucky Horse Park and then bring them back to the park afterwards for the Dressage Freestyles in the Rolex Stadium.

High Hope Steeplechase Event Cancelled

The High Hope Steeplechase, held annually at the Kentucky Horse Park, is the only day dedicated to steeplechase racing in Kentucky! Area horse lovers’ enjoy the beauty and excitement of live steeplechase racing in a family-fun ambience with entertainment for all ages in a country fair setting.
The first race of the day is the Horse Farm Worker’s Olympics, followed by the Lexington Derby Jumper Relay, Lexington Polo Club Relay, and the Irish vs. American relay race. The last race will be the “Catch a Riding Star” race - a flat race featuring student jockeys from the North American Racing Academy.
Other featured events include the Parade of the Woodford Hounds, an arts and crafts fair, terrier races, a tailgating picnic competition, a silent auction and many other activities for children such as stick horse racing, face painting, and Miniature horses from Central Kentucky Riding for Hope. Come watch the races, shop, tailgate and picnic all day, rain or shine!
There will be equine demonstrations by the Kentucky Mounted Patrol, Mounted Games Across America, and Double Dan Horsemanship.
Proceeds benefit four Lexington charities: Central Kentucky Riding for Hope, Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation, the Maker’s Mark Secretariat Center and the Kentucky Horse Park Foundation. The High Hope Steeplechase and many of its activities are sponsored by ABC 36, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Central Equipment, Darley,Green Horse, Hagyard Equine Medical Institute, KBC International, Turftown Properties, Turner Foundation and Susan G. The Kentucky Spring I & II Hunter Jumper Shows, May 8-12 & 15-19!
The Kentucky Spring Horse Show will mark the first week of competition, from May 8-12, 2013, at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington. These events attract the nation's best competitors because of their wonderful venues, excellent stabling, plenty of exercise rings and spacious cross country fields.
During the first week, the $15,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby will take place at 5:00 pm in the Rolex Stadium. This event includes jumps that are reminiscent of the hunting field, such as natural posts and split rails, a stonewall, a coop, an aiken, hedges, logs, banks, and ditches. This event gears up riders for the August $100,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby Finals.
Kicking off the first week, the seven part Hagyard Challenge Series will include the $25,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic on May 9th at 6:30 pm. These events highlight the jumper events which are held in the Rolex Stadium. The $75,000 Commonwealth Grand Prix will take center stage on Sunday, May 12th at 4:00 pm.
The main rings for the hunter competition are the Stonelea Ring and the Murphy Ring, which each feature the OTTO Sport footing, as do each ring's respective warm-up areas. The OTTO Riding Arena Mat System is a state-of-the-art surface that has been proven all over the world including the 1996 Olympics, the 1998 World Cup, and the 2006 and 2010 World Equestrian Games.
The Kentucky Spring Classic will continue the competition the following week, May 15-19, 2013. The $25,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic will be held on Thursday, May 16 at 6:30 pm as riders try to accumulate valuable points for the Hagyard Leading Rider Bonus. On Saturday, May 18, riders will compete under the lights in the Rolex Stadium at 6:30 pm for the $75,000 Mary Rena Murphy Grand Prix sponsored by Audi of Lexington.
During the World Championship Hunter Rider (WCHR) week of competition, the Kentucky Spring Classic riders will have the opportunity to compete for valuable points. WCHR is an awards program started by the American Hunter-Jumper Foundation and now carried forward by USHJA. The awards are presented, on both a national and regional level, to Pony, Junior, Amateur, Professional, Adult and Children's hunter riders who accumulate the most points at WCHR designated horse shows throughout the year.
This event is and is AA rated and a qualifying event for The Washington International Championship as well as The North American League Finals.

Cross Country Schooling Days Are Back This Summer
Cross Country Schooling Days organized by the Kentucky Horse Park Foundation, combine the rare opportunity to school your horse on the Kentucky Horse Park’s world-renowned cross country course. Obstacles range from novice to advanced, and combinations are similar to those found in competitions. All skill levels are welcome. The proceeds from the event help the foundation continue to maintain and improve the park’s competition facilities year-round.
On-site registration is available and current coggins and health certificate are required. Riders must wear an ASTM/SEI approved helmet, body-protecting vest, and approved medical armband. Stabling is available, but not guaranteed for all schooling days. For riders who are not stabling at the park, a one-day $20 trailer pass or $75 seasonal trailer pass must be purchased at registration. Seasonal trailer passes may also be purchased in advance. Celebrate Derby Days With Racing Legends, May 3-4!
Come visit Derby Days, the chance to meet past Kentucky Derby winners, Funny Cide and Go for Gin, right here at the Kentucky Horse Park on May 3 and 4.
Help us celebrate the 10th anniversary of Funny Cide’s Kentucky Derby and Preakness wins, and Go for Gin’s 1994 Kentucky Derby win, by visiting with them in their stalls or catching them at the Hall of Champions Show.
View one of the largest collections of past Kentucky Derby and Triple Crown trophies anywhere, on display in the International Museum of the Horse, featuring the trophies of Triple Crown winners Affirmed and Seattle Slew. The museum’s collection includes the amazing Calumet Farm’s eight Derby trophies, seven Preakness trophies, two Belmont platters and two Triple Crown trophies for Whirlaway in 1941 and Citation in 1948.
Racing fans and history buffs will further have the opportunity to visit the grave of Isaac Burns Murphy, probably the world’s greatest Thoroughbred jockey, who won the Kentucky Derby three times, and achieved an incredible lifetime winning record of 44%. Kentucky Derby winners War Admiral, Bold Forbes and Alysheba, among other great Thoroughbred horses, are also buried on park grounds.
The Kentucky Horse Park Gift Shop provides officially-licensed Derby merchandised including Daily Racing Forms and programs, and, of course, carries a variety of Derby hats, fancy to plain; scarves; ties; prints and notecards; and, books on Kentucky’s Thoroughbred racing heritage.
This family-friendly event also includes performances by two singer/songwriters, Taylor Dye and Dale Pyatt, and the Bittersweet Cloggers on both Friday and Saturday, and stick horse making and a coloring contest for the kids all day Saturday.
Each child (7-12) will receive a free return visit to the park just for visiting, and adult guests will be eligible for a drawing for one of several Family Season Passes.
