The Kentucky Horse Park will be closed during regular business hours on Thanksgiving Eve and Day, November 27 and 28, however; the American Saddlebred Museum’s “Showplace for Saddlebreds,” will be open all day Wednesday, November 27, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, charging visitors just $3.00 for admission.
The park will be open for Southern Lights at 5:30 pm on both evenings for a drive though the thousands of dazzling holiday lights. The inside portion of Southern Lights will also be available to guests on November 27, but only the drive will be available on Thanksgiving night, November 28.

The Art, Antique and Rare Book Auction, a consignment auction and fundraiser that is now in its eighth year, will be held at the American Saddlebred Museum in its Showplace for Saddlebreds at the Kentucky Horse Park on Saturday July 13 at noon.
Items may be previewed on Friday, July 12, from 9 am – 6 pm, and Saturday morning, July 13,from 10:30 am – 12:00 pm, prior to the auction. If you cannot be present but wish to bid on an item, telephone bids can be made with advance arrangements.
The Art, Antique & Rare Book Auction has earned its reputation as a venue at which a variety of serious equine artwork, antiques, collectibles, rare books and historic artifacts can be purchased. The focus of the auction is particularly on American Saddlebred items, but coaching, Thoroughbred, Standardbred, draft horse, Hackney and Morgan artwork are also accepted.
Never before presented items will be part of the July sale. Among them are eight original pieces by George Ford Morris, one of America's premier 19th - 20th century sporting artists. There will also be a 1904 trophy that was won by Tom Bass when he showed Jack O’Diamonds, the original audio recording of the 1950 Five-Gaited World’s Grand Championship with Wing Commander winning his third title, six lots of sculptures, including one of the handful of rare sculptures by George Ford Morris, five rarely seen advertising posters/memorabilia, an unusual hand-painted chair, Dodge Stables memorabilia, an Hermés scarf, a vintage diamond horse shoe pin, artwork by 25 different artists, 11 lots of historic books, and a painting by Justin, The Artistic Horse. In addition to Morris, samplings of other artists represented in past auctions include Edwin Bogucki, Allen F. Brewer, Currier and Ives, Frank Whitney, Leroy Neiman and McClure Jackson – just to name a handful.

The American Saddlebred Museum’s 2013 special exhibit is sure to entertain and interest horse fans and antique buffs alike. Entitled The Art of Selling with Saddlebreds: The Show Horse in Vintage Advertising, it will feature images of the breed on products, printed advertising and corporate collectibles dating from the late 1800s through the 1970s.
From cigarettes and tobacco to liquor, motor oil, hotels, fruits and vegetables, automobiles, jewelry stores and more, the Saddlebred was featured in advertising through the years to denote the highest quality. The 2013 exhibit assembles the largest collection of these items to have ever been displayed together. This unique exhibit offers a glimpse of yesteryear and the esteem the Saddlebred held in society and the marketplace.
The exhibit runs February 15, 2013 to January 31, 2014, and admission to the American Saddlebred Museum’s Showplace for Saddlebreds and The Art of Selling with Saddlebreds exhibit is included with admission to the Kentucky Horse Park.
