LEXINGTON, Ky (June 6, 2012 - Originally released May 18, 2012) The recent ABC Nightline segment on the abuse of Tennessee Walking Horses demonstrates once again why the National Walking Horse Association (NWHA) was established and why NWHA continues to play a vital role in the TWH industry. We are committed to stop soring and abuse of our great horses. Abusive practices such as those highlighted on the Nightline segment are not tolerated in our organization. We fight daily to ensure that horses are treated kindly and with great respect. NWHA is the answer to this horrible tradition.
Since 1998, the National Walking Horse Association has been promoting the general welfare of and serving as an advocate for the Walking Horse against abusive and inhumane treatment. As a USDA certified HIO, NWHA has adopted and enforced the highest level of penalties for HPA violators, adopted "no tolerance" for soring practices, and has a mandatory requirement that all DQP's, Judges, and Board of Directors members have no violations of the HPA.
The NWHA's mission is to:
• To promote the general welfare of the Walking Horse.
• To serve as an advocate for the Walking Horse against abusive and inhumane treatment.
• To provide an equitable affiliation program for Walking Horses to be exhibited, judged, and showcased in full compliance with the Horse Protection Act.
• To increase public awareness of the natural abilities of the Walking Horse.
• To generate growth of the National Walking Horse Association via the marketing, promotion, advertising, and publicity of the natural Walking Horse.
• To increase the proficiency of the National Walking Horse Association members in all matters of horsemanship.
• To serve as a communication hub for the Walking Horse Industry and other equine interest groups.
• To carry out the purposes as set forth in the Corporation's Restated Articles of Incorporation.
• To engage in any and all other lawful business allowed accomplishing the above purposes.
The National Walking Horse Association strives to increase public awareness of the natural abilities of the flat shod Walking Horse and provide an equitable affiliation program at which they may be exhibited, judged, and showcased in full compliance with the HPA. Soon after its founding, NWHA prohibited pads, chains, and other action devices from the Association's competitions. Since that time, NWHA has worked diligently to promote the flat shod walking horse in all disciplines; from the show horse to Dressage, Reining, timed events, and trail horse programs. To learn more about NWHA and our National Grand Championship Show, being held this year in Wilmington, Ohio, October 1st thru the 6th, please visit our website at www.nwha.com.

Lexington, Ky (May 7, 2012) – She is every little girl’s dream -- the beautiful woman in the spotlight surrounded by a spellbinding herd of Arabian horses at liberty. Her name is Sylvia Zerbini, and she transforms liberty work into the ultimate equestrian performing art.
“I’ve been with horses my entire life. It’s in my blood,” says Sylvia, a ninth-generation performer who has captivated audiences throughout Europe, North America, and South America since her debut on stage at the age of 5.
“It’s about the bond,” explains Sylvia, who grew up around her family’s Lipizzaner, Arabian, and Spanish horses. Studying their behavior at rest and play became her equine classroom, inspiring Sylvia to adopt liberty as a chosen way of communicating with horses. “I listen to what they tell me,” remarks Sylvia, who uses only body positions and a handful of verbal cues to communicate with 8-10 horses on stage - one third of which are stallions.
Most recently the star of the acclaimed equestrian spectacle Cavalia (2008-2011), Sylvia’s gift for orchestrating nine Arabians at once in her mesmerizing "Grande Liberté" performance has earned accolades from widespread media ranging from the Los Angeles Times to CNN to Arabian Horse World. Now, The Pyramid Society and the Kentucky Horse Park are excited to welcome Sylvia Zerbini and "Grande Liberté" to the 2012 Egyptian Event, to be held June 4-9 at The Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY!
“For over 40 years, The Pyramid Society has promoted the humane handling of horses at the Egyptian Event,” states Executive Director Anna Bishop, “Sylvia's "Grande Liberté" is a commanding example of how horses respond to abuse-free training.”
Zerbini’s critically-acclaimed performance will be open to the public and will kick off the action-packed Egyptian Event Championship Finals, beginning with a social hour at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 9, in the Kentucky Horse Park Covered Arena.
“We’re absolutely anticipating large crowds for this one-of-a-kind show,” said Bishop. “Local spectators should make plans to arrive early to do a little shopping, get a drink, and find a great seat before the arena fills up!”
John Nicholson, Executive Director of The Kentucky Horse Park adds, “For three decades the Egyptian Event has been one of our most popular annual horse shows here at the park, so to have horses trained by Sylvia Zerbini performing for our guests will make this event even more enjoyable than ever. We really hope the public will attend and experience these Arabian horses with all their charm and exotic beauty. It’s guaranteed to be a memorable experience.”
General admission seating is free to the public during The Egyptian Event Finals night. Reserved Seating options are also available. Visit the Event website at www.TheEgyptianEvent.com or contact The Pyramid Society at 859-231-0771 or

MORE ABOUT SYLVIA ZERBINI
Born in Sarasota, Florida, Sylvia grew up with her parents on tour. Her father, was a wild animal trainer. Like her mother, a famous trapeze artist, Sylvia took to the air as a girl, but horses were her true passion. At an age when most teens get a driver’s license, Sylvia was professionally training and performing with liberty horses. Sylvia calls the horses themselves her greatest mentors. She coined the phrase Grande Liberté (French for grand liberty) specifically for liberty exhibitions involving more than six horses - her specialty.
Honored with numerous awards including the prestigious Cup of Monaco, presented to her by Monaco’s Prince Rainier, Sylvia has performed for nearly 10 million people in her career, to date. She appeared at landmarks such as Madison Square Gardens in New York, Playa De Americas in Mexico City, Molsen Center in Montreal, and Los Angeles’ Staples Center, before touring with Cavalia.
Now launching a dream that has been a lifetime in the making, Sylvia is developing seminars and clinics, which have never before been offered to the public, to share her knowledge of liberty training. Seminars and clinics will be available throughout the country, as well as in Ocala, Florida, where her headquarters is located.
