Get ready for the Bluegrass Classic Dog Shows, five days of dog showing with approximately 150 breeds represented, to be held inside the air conditioned Alltech Arena at the Kentucky Horse Park, August 29 – September 2! There will be specialty shows for Daschunds, Cardigan Welsh Corgis, Isben Hounds and Scottish Deer Hounds.
The Bluegrass Classic Dog Shows includes AKC purebred dogs as well as All American dogs and classes for both beauty and performance. Every breed has a standard by which each dog is judged when competing and each breed has its own distinctive characteristics. More than 1500 dogs are scheduled to compete and spectators will cheer on their favorite breed in hopes that they win their group and go on to win the Best In Show class, which will conclude each day.
There will be plenty for spectators to do. The “Meet the Breeds” session on Saturday and Sunday provides an opportunity to meet and talk with breeders, owners and trainers, as well as a chance to wander through the grooming areas to see the various dog breeds up close.
A vendor area will be set up to shop for unique pet supplies. Items sold include dog artwork, t-shirts, dog toys, beds, leashes, collars, crates and exercise pens. Many of the items sold will feature different breeds.
Admission is only $5 per vehicle for show admission plus $3 collected at the entrance to the Kentucky Horse Park for parking. Judging will start at 9:00 am on Thursday and at 8:00 am on Friday through Sunday. A dog must be entered in the competition in order to be allowed into the Alltech Arena. Keep in mind that the parking lots are hot and it is against the law to leave a dog in a vehicle, since they could overheat.
